What's the deal with me always blowing my diet?
If you can't ever seem to stick to a weight loss diet, no doubt you have a system in place. The trouble is, this is your weight problem maintaining system.
So, can you disrupt this system? That's exactly your job if you want to solve the "sticking to it" problem and lose weight. The idea is to disturb the status quo by doing something different.
Here is an example of how you might do this. Suppose that whenever you go to a restaurant, the food on the menu sounds so good that your weight loss diet goes right out the window. You don't want to miss anything, so you overeat, and you go home feeling awful.
Now let's suppose someone said to you, "Can you think of any exception to this? Can you think of any time at all when you did not do this?" Let's say you do recall a time when you were able to hold on. You were able to stick to your diet resolve, even though you were at a restaurant where they were serving very yummy food. Perhaps you did it by reminding yourself how important losing weight is to you. This instance would be a real exception to the rule, and it could show you that you are indeed capable of doing something different.
Now you would be acknowledging that you have it within you to act in a more constructive way. Try it out. Can you think of an anti-diet habit that you have firmly in place? Now try to think of the exception to your habit, a time when you broke your own rule. Then take that exception to the rule and use it as a learning tool. You can see that you are capable of doing something out of your ordinary, something more in your best interest, something that indeed keeps you on your diet.
Take courage from your own ability to get through or get around or get over that moment when you could have blown it. Because if you could do it once, why can't you do it again? And again?
